I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia and I was five years old when I accepted Jesus into my life. God’s constant and all fulfilling love has been a source of comfort and strength and I have greatly enjoyed his daily teaching in my life.
My parents were born and raised in New Philadelphia, Ohio. That is significant to me because since I was 7 years old, I have been a die-hard fan of these Ohio teams: Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Two important life experiences have been working as a baseball umpire from the ages of 13 to 19 and being a member of a debate team from 13 to 21. These two experiences taught me about hard work, maturity, and perseverance. When I went to Liberty University and participated as a Resident Assistant at their high school summer debate program before my freshman year there, I met my wife Jessica. We dated for three years before getting married in July of 2005. We have been happily married ever since! Two weeks after getting married, we moved to Iowa City where I went to graduate school in political science at the University of Iowa. I chose graduate school in political science because I knew for sure that I did not want to go to law school. God somehow gave me the knowledge that there was a graduate program in political science and this spoke to my interests. I spent five years in graduate school learning from some of the most accomplished political scientists. During graduate school, God blessed me with a son, who we call Liam. He has been an absolute joy in my life. After graduating from the University of Iowa and being blessed by God with receiving a job at Western Illinois University, it is now my professional goal to work hard in my teaching, research, and service for WIU to glorify and honor God.
